About FLAST
Family Law Australia Support & Training
Going through separation, or a family law matter, can be one of the most stressful times in a person's life. That's especially true if you're representing yourself. The paperwork is unfamiliar, the language is technical, and it can feel like everyone else knows the rules except you.
FLAST was built to change that. We're an Australian online community and resource hub for separated parents, self-represented litigants and the family law professionals who support them. We help you understand your matter, organise your case and connect with the right people.
Who FLAST is for
• Self-represented litigants who need clear information, tools and support to prepare their case.
• Parents with a lawyer who want to understand their matter better and work more effectively with their legal team.
• Mothers and fathers going through separation, parenting arrangements or property matters, who want support from people who understand.
• People who aren't in court yet but think they might be soon, and want to understand their options early.
• Family law professionals (lawyers, mediators, counsellors, advocates, valuers and forensic experts) who want to connect with people looking for their services.
FLAST is for Australian citizens and residents dealing with Australian family law.
What FLAST offers
Case digests
We publish plain-English summaries of recent Australian family law judgments. Each one explains what happened, what the court decided and why it matters. Anyone can browse the case digest library or search digests by party name or citation. Members also get keyword search, topic channels and more.
FLAST-AI Legal Research Assistant
FLAST-AI is a research and case-preparation assistant built for Australian family law. It can help you:
• research family law
• organise and compare evidence
• build chronologies
• prepare drafts such as affidavits, case outlines and letters
FLAST-AI helps with research, organisation and preparation. Legal advice and decisions stay with qualified practitioners. Learn more about FLAST-AI.
Verified professionals and the marketplace
Find family law professionals and the services they offer: lawyers, mediators, counsellors, advocates, valuers and forensic experts. The FLAST Marketplace lists services such as consent order and affidavit help, mediation, case management support and FLAST-AI packages.
Secure messaging
Members can message each other and the FLAST team through private, encrypted messaging.
Mothers' and Fathers' groups
There are dedicated, private spaces for mothers and for fathers going through the family law system, plus a group for self-represented litigants. These are places to share experiences and get support from people in similar situations.
Discussions and community support
Post questions, join discussions and learn from other members who've been where you are.
Events, webinars and training
We run information sessions, webinars and Zoom sessions, including training on getting the most out of FLAST-AI. See upcoming events.
Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) support
Court isn't always the best path. Eligible members can get a free ADR intake call and suitability assessment. Some membership levels also include strategic ADR guidance and mentoring.
What "verified member" means
Trust matters when you're talking about something as personal as your family. That's why every FLAST member goes through a verification process when they join, so you know whether you're talking with a lawyer, a mediator or another member.
• Members give their real name and details about their situation when they sign up. Giving a phone number helps speed up validation.
• Legal professionals provide their practising certificate details as part of verification.
• Mediators, counsellors and other professionals
Verification confirms who someone is and what role they hold on FLAST. It isn't an endorsement or a recommendation of any professional's services. Always make your own enquiries before you engage someone.
Who's behind FLAST
FLAST is operated by Family Law Australia Support and Information Pty Ltd and led by Danny Jovica, Managing Director.

Important: general information, not legal advice
FLAST is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Using FLAST, including our case digests, FLAST-AI, discussions and groups, does not create a solicitor-client relationship. Everything on FLAST is general information only and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified legal practitioner about your circumstances.
