Australian Government delays Protections for Domestic Violence victims in Family Law matters

"Thank you for your email of 29 November 2018 to the office of the Attorney-General, the Hon Christian Porter MP about family law personal protection injunctions. I have been asked to respond on the Attorney-General’s behalf.
On 9 December 2016, the then Attorney-General, the Hon George Brandis QC announced that the Australian Government would change the law to make it a crime to breach personal protection injunctions issued by federal family law courts. The proposed measures were contained in the Family Law Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2017 (the Bill), which was introduced into Commonwealth Parliament on 6 December 2017.
However, the Australian Government made the decision to delay introducing these measures and removed them from the Bill prior to its passage in August 2018. The Government takes the safety of family violence victims seriously and remains committed to the policy intention of the proposed offences..."
